Paneer butter masala is a common in many restaurants across India, but for ne common dishes don't work at home.so i replicated this dish using Tofu which I felt was silkier and smoother than Paneer.
INGREDIENTS:
- 250 gm tofu / paneer
- 1 onion ground to a coarse paste
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- ½ cup tomato puree
- 1 tsp chilli pwd
- ¼ tsp turmeric pwd
- ½ tsp garam masala
- 1 bay leaf
- 4 cloves
- 1 pc cinnamon stick
- 3 cardamoms
- Salt as req
- 1 tbsp cream
- 25 gms butter
- 1 tsp kasuri methi / dry fenugreek leaves
- Chopped coriander leaves for garnish
- In a pan add half the butter and a tbsp of oil.
- Fry the tofu till slightly brown on both sides.
- Remove and keep aside.
- In the same pan add the whole spices, onion paste and sauté till colour starts to change.
- To this add the ginger, garlic paste and sauté till brown.
- Now add the tomato puree, dry masala’s and salt.
- Add 1 cup water, mix all together and cook for 5 mins.
- Into this add the cream, kasuri methi and some coriander leaves.
- Add in ½ cup water more, when starts to boil slightly add the tofu and cook for 5 mins.
- Remove from flame add in rest of butter and mix slowly.
- Garnish with chopped coriander and serve with rice or roti
